  THE END IS NEAR

  with all the ridiculous hype amongst the dubs about how this new tract is going to help bring about "the end", i thought it would be beneficial to highlight how often they've been crying that the sky is falling in the last 1/2 century:.

  ***w50 2/15 p. 54" stick to your work"*** now is the time to live and work as christians, especially now, for the final end is near.

  When we were part of the org, everytime we would hear these words thru the magazines or at assemblies, everyone would never question anything about it, just believe. We never thought, "but they said that at the last assembly". The last couple of assemblies we went to, when someone would say it was the best assembly, we would say to ourselves, "but that was what they said last time, nothing new." It's amazing how you block your mind to what's true, wanting to believe this has Jehovah's direction so badly. We'd see old friends, say "we're still hanging in there", and "at least we're still here." Now I know why we said those things. I look back with regret at the many studies I had, telling them things would be over before "this generation" was gone...URGENCY! I'm so glad we saw the light, wishing I could take a lot of things back.

  I'm new and nervous!

  i am new here and have been "lurking" for several months.

  the discussions have helped me tremendously to break free from the society.

  I read your story and it sounds much like ours. We would read Crisis of Conscience to each other, looking up scriptures, and searching for the "truth" about the "truth". For a long time, we thought maybe we'd be struk by lightning for questioning the WT, even though we knew Jehovah would expect that. My heart aches for all those in situation similar who know something is wrong and are so afraid to look any other place. I'm glad to hear you're reading the Bible. For us, this is what helped us get through all the pain of leaving treasured beliefs for the truth of the Bible. I used to read the Bible readings occasionally, but found it hard because I'd try to remember the WT application, so did it rarely. Since leaving, I enjoy reading the Bible for what it says to me, and it says things so differently once I took off my blinders. It brought tears to my eyes when you said you could give your babies this new found "truth". I only wish I had found out what I did sooner. Glad to have you with us. I think you'll find this board "comfort food". Welcome...

  Are you really free from the Watchtower?

  the thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think.

  i honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-jw sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests.

  the watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others.

  We have been out for over 4 years now, and frequent this site daily. I would NEVER return to the Watchtower after finding out all the lies and deception therein. Since we still have family inside, we are still researching subjects, finding things we can say to them. Not only that, if we can say only one thing that would help another lurker to find his or her way, it's worth all the time on this board. Besides that, as an ex JW, we have left a lifetime of friends, taking very few if any with us, so this board is comforting, finding new friends here, knowing we are not alone. Meanwhile, we are finding new friends among the "world" that we once believed was demonized.

  well, today i came home from work and i found some pamphlet from a jehovah's witness on my doorstep.

  i began to read it because before i state what i believe i think it is only fair that i find out some info.

  it was the flyer about the end of false religion.

  What a great first post. I'm sure most of us who are ex JW's on this board wish we had used our God given brains, instead of giving our thought process over to the Watchtower. I was raised a JW as an infant and didn't know anything else, as many here were. I'm so thankful that I didn't spend my WHOLE life there, and that my children and their families can make a better, Christian life for themselves too.

  Researching the WBTS is painful and shocking

  after lady liberty gave a link to the new re-examine site, i found some details that are so disturbing its boggling my mind.. first, the original presidents were voted in, but not one vote per person but for every $10.00 contributed you received a vote.

  so those already in power and with much money had tremendous sway as to who got in and who didn't.

  this little scheme was not stopped until 1944.. so when rutherford was "elected by a unanimous vote" we can assume it was mainly of his own doing based on money contributed.

  This post shows all the more reason to keep the issues to the front. I know for myself, when I first started searching this site, when I came across a post that was JW bashing, it made me cringe. I know there are many who have been hurt terribly by this organization, so I can see where they are coming from. I too, am experiencing the wrath of shunning by immediate family. But, I think it's important for new lookers to see this site is also about information. There is a world of information all of us have been denied. Maybe not denied, but the way information is put together in the publications, unless its together, you don't realize what's being said. It's hard to find information when the cd roms only go back so far, and for a reason. Anyway, research is painful for sure, to think what you once held so dear, willing to die for the belief, is a lie. But thankfully, posters on this board have and are having a tremendous effect for the good. Thanks to you all.

  We were just talking earlier this morning about a "friend" who has a similar experience, husband wanting to be a JW and wife that went along for the sake of the marriage and family. How sad that so many are in this situation. I think I know YOU! Glad to have you here finally. Call if it's you!

  I need a new bible

  It's interesting, Jesus, in Matthew 24, time and time again, Jesus said no one, including himself would know the day of his arrival. It seems funny that not Jesus or the apostles would know when Jesus would come, but the witnesses figured it out!

  I have Tyndale's "Eight Translation New Testament". It's great for comparing scriptures. The one I like best so far is Zondervan's "NIV Study Bible". The footnotes are wonderful, taking nearly half a page on each page. It's complete, Genesis to Revelation. I think you stil have to rely on context, as I've found every translation has a measure of bias. Enjoy your new "read" whatever it may be.
